30 years ago on this day, Imam Khomeini; 1979 time TIMES magazine person of the year, entered Iran to end the 2500 year old monarchy and start a democratic regime. A man whose influence on the world forced TIMES to print his picture on their front cover over and over again from that day forward.
I, as the 3rd generation of the revolution want to know how much really the society we are living in right now, is close to the dreams that our fathers had in mind when they yelled “down with the king (shah)” in the streets!
The answer to the above question is not easy, but in my point of view; the missing link that has pushed Iran far from the place its worthy of; is that our fathers didn’t know exactly what they were after.
The current Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, with all the radical positions he takes, is a product of the lack of goals and predefined targets in the Islamic revolution in Iran which were to be all summarized in one word; “freedom”. Only someone who is uninformed of the true nature of Islam, and the actual definitions of democracy and freedom can be like our current president!
